Brief matter of Mann’s photographs

If you have to chose between simplicity and theoretical issues, which will be your choice? Sally Mann has both concepts in her work as a photographer. First, pictures about landscape and bones represent the simplicity of things that could be seen commonly but the Mann’s work adds meaning that has to be discovered. In the other hand, photos of child nudity have more complexity. It is an irony how Mann’s photos of child nudity give simplicity to a very heavy concept of our conservatives societies.

  1. Hi Giancarlo,

Nice post! I like the way you are thinking about Mann's photographs of her children. I agree that the presentation of her family photos seems simple, even though I suspect they took a lot of craft. It's too bad that they made people upset, but perhaps I like to think that such dialogues force all of us to reexamine their assumptions.
